Gilroy police seek pair who approached girl in delivery van

GILROY – Authorities are investigating a disturbing encounter between two men in a package delivery van and a girl outside a Gilroy residence.

The white unmarked van was driving in the area of Larkspur Lane and Rockrose Court about 12:30 p.m. Thursday when one of the men got out and ran toward the girl, who was sitting on a set of steps on the side of the house, Gilroy police said in a community advisory.

“At that moment the girl’s mother came outside,” police said. “The male abruptly stopped, appeared startled, and ran back to the van, which was pulling up in front of the house.”

Police said the man jumped into the van, which then drove away toward Mantelli Drive.

The man who approached the girl was described as white, 25 to 29 years old and about 5 feet 11 inches with a “skinny” build. He also had black curly hair and was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans. The driver was described only as a black man in his 30s.

The van was described as being similar to a package delivery van with a sliding front passenger door.

Police said security camera footage from the neighborhood is being examined for clues.
