Redwood City: Suspect arrested in parking lot stabbing

REDWOOD CITY – A 32-year-old man was arrested Wednesday in connection with a stabbing in Redwood City, authorities said.

Officers were called to the 1600 block of Broadway about 12:30 a.m. for a report of a stabbing, Redwood City police said in a news release Thursday. They arrived to find a 41-year-old man in the rear parking lot of America’s Tire suffering from stab wounds to his neck and hand.

The victim told officers he was walking through the parking lot when the suspect attacked him without provocation.

Police said the victim was rushed to Stanford Health Care, where he underwent surgery for his injuries.

Officers were interviewing witnesses and canvassing the area when they spotted a man who matched the suspect’s description, police said. A witness who was working on his car in the parking lot at the time of the stabbing positively identified the man as the suspect.

The suspect, identified as Dennis Rodriguez, was arrested and booked into San Mateo County jail on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon causing great bodily injury.

Police said the weapon used to stab the victim has not been found.
